Autism Eye at the The Autism Show
The parents of a child with autism who are also award-winning journalists are spearheading the rapid success of the new quarterly magazine Autism Eye.
Mark Hayes and Gillian Loughran are keeping parents and carers informed about the latest research into autism and treatments for the condition. The magazine was the official media partner for the hugely successful Autism Show, held at ExCel London on 24 and 25 June, which saw Autism Eye distributed free to thousands of parents who attended.
Anna Kennedy was on hand at Autism Eye’s stand to help pick the winners of champagne and chocolates from all the people who subscribed to the magazine at the show. She is pictured with Orla Loughran Hayes, Mark and Gillian’s daughter and the sibling of Finn, who has autism.
Autism Eye is priced at £20 for a year’s subscription for parents, including postage. Gillian, Autism Eye’s editor, says: “Our mission is to offer an affordable way for parents to keep informed about ways to improve their child’s life through in-depth and unbiased coverage.” Topics such as diet, nutrition, biomedical treatments, sensory issues and educational interventions, plus important legal news and advice, are all covered.
The magazine runs regular features offering advice from a top barrister on educational matters, help from doctors on health issues that affect children with autism, and insights from an expert in sensory integration therapy who treats children with autism for their sensory processing difficulties.
According to Gillian: “We draw on the experience of professionals who can treat our children and seek to inspire our readers with stories of parents who are making a difference to their child’s life.”
